Tips for the perfect picnic Empty

Perfect picnics are held on warm summer days whilst the sun shines, perhaps with a hint of a breeze to cool the air. Food prepared with outdoor dining in mind is shared whilst wine glasses tinkle. Romantic picnics or family picnics can all be enjoyed if the picnic is prepared for and the right spot chosen to lay the blanket down. No one wants to see their perfect picnic spoiled by ants in the food, wasps in the wine, and cow pats under the blanket, lamented as the heavens open to a deluge of rain.

It will add to your picnic pleasure if the weather is good, but don’t take a chance if it looks changeable, unless you are prepared with umbrellas and raincoats. Make sure your blanket has a waterproof side in case the grass has any dampness left from the early morning dew. You will need to check that everything you need to take is put together: after all there’s no point carefully adding your wine to the wine cooler and leaving the corkscrew at home.

If you have a picnic basket that ought to contain the essentials you will need, such as plates, glasses and cutlery, but don’t forget the other things which may escape your mind such as napkins, salt and pepper cruets, a sharp knife, bug spray and lots of water. You don’t want to risk getting dehydrated carrying all your picnic gear to the idyllic spot.

A pull along wine and cheese cooler which has room for other goodies is an excellent way to keep your food cool, and saves you the bother of carrying it, as you’ll already be laden down with the picnic basket, blanket, umbrellas, and raincoats. In addition you may well have brought along a sun parasol and sun block, sun hats, and children.

The food you choose may well make your picnic memorable, and simple fresh foods are easy to enjoy outdoors. Depending on the number of picnickers a few loaves of crusty French bread are ideal for adding brie to when you decide to eat. Deep fried Southern chicken is delicious to take along, and can be prepared the day before. If you prefer to take sandwiches then add an English touch with cooling cucumber sandwiches and fresh salad sandwiches. Hard boiled eggs, still in their shells, are a picnic must, as are summer fruits such as cherry tomatoes, grapes, cherries, and blackberries.

Simple foods which don’t take a mountain of preparation and planning can be enjoyed in a leisurely fashion at the perfect picnic which is bug free, wasp free, rain free and a wonderful way to have a free day out.
