It was good, yes. Worth seeing, yes. Worth seeing in 3D, no. Exciting new cast members, not really. Mermaids, unfortunately, yes. As good as the others, almost.

Depp is typically wonderful, again, but he felt a bit more scripted and toned down. Cruz falls short of expectations (for those who had some.) The mermaids are disappointing and more disturbing than anything. While the CGI wasn't as savvy as expected.

The first hour of the film was slow and fell short, but was made up for in the last half and post-credits fun. The sword fighting and action was typically enjoyable. Pirate humor is bountiful. We will probably not get what we had in the first episode, but we will come back for every Pirates installment as they are all worthy fun Disney films. Disney needed this to redeem their lousy streak this year.

Go see it with the kids and buddies alike. It will feel like Indiana Jones, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Finding Neverland meet up in a series of unique event. Nobody will blame you for it, and you will walk out with something to talk about. Might even be more fun with a bit of rum on board. This two hour eight minute Pirates' movie will earn 3 out of 5 Cyclones.
